Indian Readership Survey (IRS R2) gave rare insights into the media growth. The highlights of the survey are:

  1. FM Radio and Internet are the fastest growing mediums while magazine readership is in steep decline.
  2. Very few daily newspapers showed increase in readership.
  3. Cinema viewership is in decline while TV viewership is rising.
  4. Cricket Samrat is the top sports magazine in India.
  5. Hindi magazines are enjoying more readership than English magazines.
  6. Saras Salil is the No.1 magazine in India while Dainik Jagran is the undisputed leader in the newspaper segment.
  7. Readership Numbers are given in lakhs in brackets after the name of each Newspaper/ Magazine.

Highlights of the IRS R2:

Top 5 English newspapers in India in readership:

  1. Times of India is the No.1 English daily in India (133.4 lakh )
  2. Hindustan Times ( 63.5 lakh)
  3. The Hindu (Readership: (52.8 lakh)
  4. The Telegraph (Readership: (29 lakh)
  5. Deccan Chronicle (Readership: (28 lakh).

Top 5 Hindi dailies in India: Hindustan is gradually gaining.

  1. दैनिक जागरण Dainik Jagran (557.4 lakh)
  2. दैनिक भास्कर Dainik Bhaskar (305.8 lakh)
  3. अमर उजाला Amar Ujala (282.2 lakh)
