Braj Mandal Parikrama Traditionally known as "Chaurasi Kos" (84 kos- about 250 kms) parikrama. The Braj Parikrama is the Parikrama around the holy land of Braj, the birthplace of Lord Krishna. The rainy month of Bhadon, the month when Lord Krishna was born, is a time of colorful celebrations. The famous Braj Parikrama, a pilgrimage of all the places in Braj associated with Krishna, is undertaken during this time. However from year to year the exact schedule may change, but the basic route that is taken on Braja Mandala Parikrama does not change.
Devotees achieve full experience of twelve forests of Vraja, over a period of one month and visit holy tirthas (pilgrimage centres) of Vraja (also spelt Braja or Braj). Vraja Mandala comprises twelve forests, known as vans, and twenty-four groves, known as upavans.
The twelve forests (vans) are:
| 01-Madhuvan | 02-Talavan | 03-Kumudvan | 04-Bahulavan |
| 05-Kamavan | 06-Khadiravan | 07-Vrindavan | 08-Bhadravan |
| 09-Bhandiravan | 10-Belvan | 11-Lohavan | 12-Mahavan |
The twenty-four groves (upvans) are
| 01-Gokul | 02-Govardhan | 03-Barsana | 04-Nandagram |
| 05-Sanket | 06-Paramadra | 07-Aring | 08-Sessai |
| 09-Mat | 10-Uchagram | 11-Kelvan | 12-Sri Kund |
| 13-Gandharvavan | 14-Parsoli | 15-Bilchhu | 16-Bacchavan |
| 17-Adibadri | 18-Karahla | 19-Ajnokh | 20-Pisaya |
| 21-Kokilavan | 22-Dadhigram | 23-Kotvan | 24-Raval |
and all of these places are stated to share in Lord Krishna’s absolute nature.
The yatra extends to Kotban to the north of Mathura, to Nandgaon, Barsana and the Govardhan Hill to the west and south-west of the city and to the banks of the Yamuna to the east, where the Baldeo Temple is located. Colorful melas and performances of the Raaslila (a depiction of the exploits of Lord Krishna) are organized.
On Braj Mandala Parikrama, devotees from far and wide come together on the Braj Bhomi for taking the holy circumambulation around the divine land. The Parikrama commences at Mathura by bathing at Visrama Ghata. It moves clockwise around the Braja Mandala, heading first towards southwest of Mathura. It then turns north, visiting the seven main forests on the western side of the River Yamuna. The Parikrama then crosses the Yamuna and heads southwards visiting the five main forests on the eastern side of the river. It moves south until it reaches Baldeo (Dauji) and then goes back northwards, through the forest of Mahavana. Finally, it returns to Mathura, where it concludes by again bathing in Visrama Ghata.

Air Travel Tips
High Fliers
- Abide by the list of items prohibited on board and carry most items like skis/cues/walking canes/sticks/Swiss knives in checked in baggage – this smoothens the check-in process plus avoids the risk of confiscation and unnecessary delays.
- Airlines follow very strict security procedures. So make sure you reach the airport for check in well before departure time. Its best to check with the airline regarding how much in advance you should be at the airport.
- Do not accept any package from a stranger.
- For a smooth ride on a plane, choose the seats located near the wings as if the plane hits an air pocket, this is where you will get the least amount of bumps.
- If you are planning to watch the in flight movie, choose the fourth or fifth row from the screen to avoid getting a neck cramp.
- If you are prone to motion sickness, take an anti sickness pill before the flight. The pill won’t help much, if you have it after you have started feeling sick!
- If your baggage does not arrive on the same flight as you, fill out a Property Irregularity Report (PIR), with a description of the baggage, a list of contents and address to which it should be forwarded. If your baggage does not arrive at all, place a claim with the airline within 21 days.
- Last and this is equally important – report any unattended items in the airport or aircraft to the nearest airport or airline personnel.
- Overbooking is a fact of life in the airline industry. If you are not in a particular hurry to get to your destination then volunteer to give your seat up and take the next flight. The airline will provide you a hotel room and other frills, so you can end up having an extended vacation at the airlines expense!
- Refrain from OD-ing on the free booze when on a flight, as too much alcohol causes dehydration. Tank up instead on aqua-pura.
- To beat jetlag, book an overnight flight or one that arrives in the evening when travelling east so you can either catch your sleep on the flight or as soon as you get in to your destination.
- To prevent the swelling of feet as is wont to happen on long flights, walk in the aisle at intervals and try not to take off your shoes.
- When making flight reservation, remember to request for special meals if you have any food restrictions.
Weather Vane
- Keep track of the weather at your destination and be prepared, especially if you are going to a hurricane prone area.
Heartbreak Hotel
- Check whether your hotel has a hair-dryer, iron, coffee percolator, etc, to avoid carrying these gadgets and also making it easy to skip the 110/220 conversion problem when travelling to foreign countries.
- Don’t depend solely on the hotel’s alarm service. Carry your own little alarm clock to catch an early morning flight or that pre-dawn sightseeing trip.
- Make your hotel reservations in advance, especially if you are visiting a place in peak season. You don’t want to be caught without a roof over your head!
- Most hotels frown on guests doing their own laundry in the bathrooms, but if you do need to wash some smalls, carry a length of nylon twine to improvise a clothesline.
- Negotiating room tariffs over the phone? Call the hotel twice to confirm the rates. Note down the name of the person you have talked to and request a written/faxed confirmation. This way you can be sure that you will not be wrongly billed by the hotel.
- When you check into your hotel, ask the reception to give you a card with the hotel’s name address and telephone number. This will come in handy if you get lost or forget the name of your hotel.
Biggest Shiva Idol in Nepal
On the occassion of Mahashivratri, a colossal 108ft statue of Shiva is unveiled by a 46 year old an Indian industrialist Mr. Kamal Jain.
Mr. Kamal Jain owns Hilltake Industries Pvt Ltd, which manufactures plastic water storage tanks and currently, has an annual turnover of NRS 250-300 million. Nearly 20 years ago Mr. Jain has left his family home and business in Siliguri and make a fresh start in Nepal. He felt a special rapport with Pashupatinath always wanted to pay a special tribute to him.
The work began in the temple town of Bhaktapur four years ago. The main artisans are from India. The statue itself has cost Mr. Jain about NRS 25 million while he estimates it would require another NRS 10 million to finish the project. In addition, there is the money spent on acquiring the land and building the temple.
He estimates it will take another five to six months for the project to be over. He was happy on Monday when hundreds of people turned up at his temple to worship the image on Mahashivaratri.
According to reports, this Shiva idol may not be the highest. There is a Hanuman statue in Mumbai that is said to be 111 ft high. However, his idol may still win the battle of heights since the pedestal of his Shiva is 40 ft above ground.

The Great Pyramid of Egypt
Following in the footsteps of King Khufu and travel back in time to 2720-2560 BC to marvel at the engineering masterpiece of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Pyramid of Giza. An estimated 2.6 million blocks weighing as much as 70 tons apiece were used in the construction of the Great Pyramid. Can you imagine the sense of achievement that it would be to climb to the top of the 482-foot Great Pyramid and panning the vast desert landscape?

Fact:
The subterranean chamber leads to a passage that descends 345 feet beneath the earth. It’s foundation covers thirteen areas and has lost 33 feet of all of its dimensions due to erosion of its marble encasing that once was used to protect the pyramid from the brutal desert elements.
