From a neurological perspective, I wonder what, if any, difference there is in brain function or control for the 2 extra digits. It could be that being born with the extra digits, the brain would be in a state to control the extra fingers at a normal capacity compared to those of us with only 10 fingers. Or maybe some other aspect of the brain works in conjunction with the Parietal lobe and Medulla.

a) have distinct joints
b) muscle fibers and
c) tendons as well as
d) functional nerves to allow for ‘communication’.
Otherwise it’d just be a pretty useless appendix.
