For spreading awareness about Internet, Google India announced the launch of mobile Internet bus to provide the experience of worldwide web to people across Tamil Nadu.
Google India (Research and Development) Centre Head Prasad Ram told reporters in Chennai that this bus project is based on four themes –
- Information,
- Communication,
- Entertainment and
- Education,
The Internet Bus will have content in English and Tamil to give users an understanding of how the Internet can be used for all these needs.
He also told “We want to educate people about the benefit of Internet and this bus would make them to understand the usage of Internet in a much effective way.”

The bus will cover 15 towns across the state over a period of one-and-a-half months.
Google India Product Manager Prem Ramaswami said later that this was like a pilot project for them and based on the response they get from this project, they would continue it in other states as well.
It is like a pilot study. More than 19 per cent of Tamilians prefer Google Tamil for accessing the Internet and that is also one of the reasons to launch the bus project from Tamil Nadu.
The bus is designed to make the introduction of the Internet simple for a user. The message will be shared through videos that talk about how people are using the Internet for varied reasons and activities: For instance, grandparents using e-mail and video sites to interact with children in another city; a student from a small city using search to find information that is not otherwise physically accessible and a local music group using YouTube to share their talent with the world.
Explaining about the project, Prasad Ram said that it would explain a user on what all services it could offer through audio-visual format so that a user would be able to get the required information.
He said once the project was completed, they would be able to share some vital information to the state Government as well.
