एक कहानी पर फिल्म की बनाने के लिए एक पारखी निर्देशक की ज़रूरत होती है जो कहानी के साथ पूरा इंसाफ़ करे पर कलाकारों से भी उम्दा प्रदर्शन करवा सके | विशाल भारद्वाज ऐसे ही गिने चुने निर्देशकों में से एक है | वे लीग से हटकर फिल्में बनाना के लिए प्रसिद्ध है और उनके मौलिक निर्देशन को दर्शक बहुत पसंद करते है फिर चाहे वह फिल्म कमीने हो या ओमकारा | विशाल भारद्वाज की ‘7 खून माफ़’ रस्किन बॉन्ड की कहानी ‘सुजेंस सेवन हस्बेन्ड्स’ से प्रेरित है | इससे पहले वे शेक्सपियर की ओथेल्लो (ओमकारा) और मेकबेथ (मक़बूल) पर भी अच्छी फिल्में बना चुके है जिन्हे दर्शकों ने बेहद पसंद किया |

‘7 खून माफ़’ कहानी है एक औरत की जो सच्चे प्यार की तलाश में बार बार शादी करती है | कुछ सालो पहले तक ये कोई सोच भी नही सकता था की एक औरत अपने पतियों का कत्ल कर सकती है, वो भी एक नही, दो नही पर सात कत्ल| ये सब एक ऐसे देश में जहाँ उसे देवी समझा जाता है | ऐसी थीम निश्चित ही फिल्मों के परंपरागत शौकीनो को एक झटका देती है जिन्होने औरत को हिन्दी फिल्मों में एक अबला नारी की तरह ही देखा है|

सुजैना सच्चे प्यार की तलाश में सबसे पहले मेजर एडविन (नील नितिन मुकेश) शादी करती है जो उसे बहुत प्यार तो करता है पर बहुत शक्की भी है | उसकी मौत के बाद सुजैना की शादी होती है जिम्मी (जॉन अब्राहम) नाम के एक गायक से होती है| पर सफलता के चरम पर जिम्मी नशीली दवायें लेने लगता है और उसका भी अंतकाल हो जाता है |

अब बारी आती है वसीउल्लाह उर्फ मुसाफिर (इरफ़ान ख़ान) की जो पेशे से कवि है | मुसाफिर दिन मे तो बड़े रोमानी और शायराना है पर रात में बीवी पर अत्याचार करने वाले पति है | फिर बारी है निकोलाई (अलेक्संदर द्याचेंको) की जो रूसी है पर ये शादी भी लंबी नही चलती जब सुजैना को निकोलाई की रूसी बीवी का पता चल जाता है |

एक रूसी की मौत पर पुलिस जाँच पड़ताल शुरू करती है और इस केस का जिम्मा मिलता है कीमत लाल (अनु कपूर) को| कीमत लाल सुजैना को शादी के लिए मना लेता है पर उसकी भी मौत दिल के दौरे से हो जाती है | अभी भी प्यार की उम्मीद संजोए सुजैना डॉ मधुसुधन (नसीरूद्दीन शाह) से शादी करती है | ये सुजैना का पहला पति है जो उसे मारना चाहता है पर सुजैना उसे भी पार कर देती है |

सुजैना सातवी बार शादी करती है…पर इस बार उस व्यक्ति से जो जानता है कि सुजैना ने सारे कत्ल किए है | पर क्या सुजैना को इस बार सच्चा प्यार मिल पाएगा??

प्रियंका फिल्म मे अपने पतियों का खून करती नज़र आती है पर ये दृश्य भीषण और दर्दनाक नही लगते | इसके लिए विशाल भारद्वाज का निर्देशन तारीफ़-ए-काबिल है | फिल्म को हल्का रखने के लिए भारद्वाज ने जगह जगह पर हास्य का बेहतरीन उपयोग किया है |

प्रियंका के सातों पतियों की कहानी में कुछ एक ही जमती है | नील नितिन मुकेश, इरफ़ान ख़ान, अनु कपूर और जॉन इब्राहिम की कहानी उम्दा है पर अलेक्संदर द्याचेंको और नसीरूद्दीन शाह की कहानी बेहतर और छोटी की जा सकती थी | साथ ही फिल्म की गति के साथ रहने के लिए दर्शकों को ना सिर्फ़ ध्यान से फिल्म को देखते रहना के साथ अपने दिमाग़ का भी पूरा इस्तेमाल करना होगा | कुछ जगह दर्शक दृश्यों पर सवाल खड़े करते भी नज़र आएँगे जैसे 7 खून और सबमे एक ही औरत…क्या पुलिस सो रही थी?

फिल्म का संगीत भी विशाल ने ही दिया है और एक ताजगी लिए हुए है खासकर डार्लिग और बेकरन गाने भी सुनने लायक हैं। फिल्म का पृष्ठभूमि संगीत कमाल का है। संवादों की बात की जाए तो ‘पब्लिक में सनसनी एक बार करने दो’… और ‘आई वांट तो ड्रिंक हिज ब्लड’… फिल्म के मूड को जबरदस्त तरीके से पेश करते हैं। संपादन और 20 से लेकर 65 साल की महिला के कायांतरण में कैमरा और सिनेकाला का बेहतरीन इस्तेमाल किया गया है।

अभिनय में तो प्रियंका चोपड़ा और अनु कपूर ने बाजी मार ली | प्रियंका चोपड़ा का ये किरदार उनके फिल्मी पेशे का सबसे उम्दा किरदार रहेगा और उन्होने इसमे पूरी जान डाल दी है | उन्होने 21 साल से 65 साल तक की औरत का किरदार बखूबी निभाया है और उनका अभिनय फिल्म की सफलता के पीछे के मुख्य कारण रहेगा | उन्होने सात पतियों के साथ अंतरंग दृश्य भी बहुत सहजता से किए है| बाकी किरदारों में इरफ़ान ख़ान और नसीरूद्दीन शाह जचे है | नील नितिन मुकेश ठीक ठाक है पर जॉन अब्राहम के लिए कुछ ख़ास नही है| विवान शाह, जो सुजैना की कहानी सुनते है, ने अपनी पहली ही फिल्म मे बेहतरीन काम किया है|

संक्षेप मे कहे तो 7 खून माफ़ एक डार्क फिल्म है जिसके अपने अलग प्रशंसक होंगे | फिल्म को प्रियंका चोपड़ा के अभिनय और विशाल भारद्वाज के हरफनमैला निर्देशन के लिए एक बार ज़रूर देखी जा सकता है |

Movie Review: Tanu Weds Manu London-based Manu is in India to choose a suitable bride. Kanpur girl Tanu has no intention of getting into an arranged marriage. Manu is almost unbelievably saintly. Tanu is almost excessively fiery. The two are chalk and cheese, just right for a rollicking rom com. But that’s exactly what we don’t get in `Tanu Weds Manu’ : a range of interesting supplementary acts distract us from the lead pair whose rocky path to the `mandap’ we are meant to follow with interest.

Under the tutelage of a benign father and a sharp mother, Manu ( Madhavan) is led through a series of potential ‘sasurals’, where he is as much on display as the girls he’s meant to be ‘seeing’. And of all those specimens, he falls for Tanu ( Ranaut) who chooses to knock herself out for the encounter : there she is, lying with her eyes closed, her sari in charming disarray, and there he is, all agog.

Their first meeting looks promising. But this is before Ms Ranaut opens her mouth. Once she does, her shrill self emerges full-blown. She has no qualms in calling Manu names, and for all her rebel-without-a-discernible-cause act, she wants him to dump her, not the other way around. Seldom has a Bollywood heroine been so gormless, and charmless. And what kind of a true-blue Kanpuria girl, even if she went to ‘DU’ ( Delhi University), say ‘aivayin’? That is more a purview of Dilli girls. ( The last who used the like-that-only phrase just right was the Janakpuria Shruti from ‘Band Baaja Baraat’). Why anyone but the smitten Manu would want her is hard to understand; turns out, there is another, a completely unsuitable boy, whose feelings she reciprocates.

The triangle, completed by Shergill, would have gone under if it hadn’t been for the splendid Deepak Dobriyal. Playing Pappi, pal-cum-chief fetcher-and-carrier of `dulhe raja’ Manu, Dobriyal shines in the film, lifting it to a place, whenever he can, where it can be watched. As Tanu’s best friend, Bihari girl Payal, who sees her as she is, and still likes her, Swara Bhaskar does a good job. In the mélange of accents and places ( Dwivedijis and Sharmajis, and Kanpur and Lucknow and Allahabad) both these stand out. As does Eijaz Khan playing a `sardar’ friend who’s getting married : can’t have a long-drawn Bollywood `shaadi’ film without a full-blown Punjabi wedding, can we?

The very likeable Madhavan deserves better. Also, will someone please give Deepak Dobriyal a proper lead role?

She is an attractive, young, career woman in her late twenties, working as an airhostess for a domestic airline. She invests her life savings to put down payment on a 2BHK apartment in the suburbs but can’t manage the monthly installments without the help pf her live in boyfriend Karan Malhotra. Her boyfriend’s colorful past makes her insecure about her relationship and she has trust issues which lead to frequent quarrels between the couple. When one such spat gets out of hand, she throws him out of the apartment only to realize that she can’t afford the payments on her own. On the advice of colleague, she advertises for a new flat mate.

Rohit Roy: Karan Malhotra
He is a handsome, successful, advertising executive, leading a charmed yuppie life in contemporary Mumbai. He has been quite a ladies man, but for the past three years, he is in a committed relationship with his girl friend Preeti Sengupta. When she invests in a 2BHK apartment in the suburbs and is worried about monthly payments, he offers to move with her and share the financial burden.

Neetu Chandra: Neha Bhardwaj
She is a young, innocent looking, small town girl, who has just arrived in Mumbai looking for a job and a place to stay. She gets a job as a data entry clerk at a book store through an employment agency and responds to Preeti Sengupta’s advertisement for a room for rent. Her simplicity and respectful demeanor impresses Preeti who takes her in as her new flat mate. Preeti also feels sympathy towards Neha when she learns that Neha has been brought up in an orphanage, but Neha is also harbouring a secret which when revealed completely changes the dynamics of their relationship.

Anupam Kher: Madhusudan Tanha
He is an elderly, neighbor, living next door to Preeti’s apartment. He is a poet and a songwriter with a pen name Tanha, which is quite symbolic of his life as he lives alone in his apartment with his pet Persian cat whom he adoringly addresses as ‘Shehzadi’. His literate poetry finds no takers in crass commercial Bollywood but an item number written on the advice of a producer is quickly picked up and filmed with a hot item girl. His involvement in his neighbor’s affairs leads to dire consequences for Tanha.

Synopsis
Preeti Sengupta (Tanushree Dutta) is an airhostess living in with her boyfriend Karan Malhotra (Rohit Roy). They share a nice 2BHK apartment in the northern suburbs of Mumbai and are befriended by their elderly neighbor Madhusudan Tanha (Anupam Kher), a struggling poet and lyricist. Tanha is a loner living with his only companion, a Persian cat whom he lovingly calls Shehzadi.
Preeti is possessive and has issues with trust. When she mistakenly suspects her boyfriend to be unfaithful, she throws him out of the house but soon realizes she can’t afford the payment on the apartment on her own. On the advice of a fellow airhostess, she advertises for a tenant to share her apartment. Enter Neha Bhardwaj (Neetu Chandra), a modest small-town girl asking for accommodation. Very impressed by her simplicity and respectfulness, Preeti believes she has found a perfect roommate. The two girls soon become close – their camaraderie leads them to even become companions.
Until things begin to go disastrously wrong – slowly and steadily. Preeti’s seemingly normal life is thrown off gear – with a series of incidents that take her by surprise. Is it just co-incidence or is someone deliberately causing all the trouble? Is Neha really as simple as she seems? In the grip of mystery, unforeseen and gruesome events and murder as its heinous best, the truth seems shocking as it in folds. As Neha and Preeti are torn apart by suspicion, deceit and betrayal, the question is – will the romance between Karan and Preeti survive or…

Synopsis:
Ravana is supposedly a modern day take on the Ramayana with Abhishek playing the title role. Abhishek Bachchan’s sister gets publicly humiliated by the character played by South star Vikram. A wide majority of Hindi movies look at urban issues. Right from the outfits to the lingo, there’s no denying that Hindi movies also look at West for inspiration. In real life too, burgers, pizzas, sizzlers and colas have replaced sarson ka saag, dal-roti and sherbat-n-gola. But you do crave for desi food when you keep munching non-desi stuff all the while, don’t you?

The fact is, desi stories, with real characters, can never go out of fashion. In fact, a number of present-day film-makers often tell me that they look upon, besides other reputed names, Hrishikesh Mukherjee as aninspiration. On one hand you had Amitabh Bachchan, the reigning superstar of 1970s and 1980s, doing a SHOLAY and an AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY and on the other hand, doing a BEMISAAL and a CHUPKE CHUPKE for Hrishi-da.

Debutante director Rahul Aggarwal also, very respectfully, credits his inspiration to Hrishi-da and his first outing NA GHAR KE NA GHAAT KE mirrors the fact at several points of the narrative. The protagonist in the film is like any other non-descript person you set your eyes on the street, who is as helpless as you and me in a life-changing situation.

A film like NA GHAR KE NA GHAAT KE ought to have a simple, uncomplicated plotline and actors who can pull off these roles without ‘acting’ those parts. While the writing is interesting at times and wobbly at places [the climax is weak], the set of actors are more or less believable.

Final word? NA GHAR KE NA GHAAT KE may not be that small little gem that sparkles brightly even in the dark, but it’s an earnest effort from a first-time storyteller [Rahul Aggarwal] nonetheless.

Devki Nandan Tripathi [Rahul Aggarwal] is a simple, rustic man who decides to try his luck in the city of dreams, Mumbai. He gets a job at the Mausam Vibhaag. In the city, he comes across an array of people who often find his innocence amusing and comical, but Devki realises that they stick with him even in the thickest of bogs that his life hauls him in.

The very first sequence of NA GHAR KE NA GHAAT KE sets the mood of the film and you instantly get drawn into the world of Devki Nandan Tripathi. While major portions of the first hour are plain ordinary, it’s the second half that catches your eye. The sequences between Paresh and Rahul are the mainstay of the film and the subsequent arrival of the villagers to prove that Rahul and Narayani are indeed married brings a big smile on your face.

But the smile transforms into a frown as the film nears its climax. The chase and the subsequent marriage in the police station premises appears filmi and a complete compromise from the writing point of view. A better culmination to the story would’ve only enhanced the impact.

Debutante director Rahul Aggarwal knows the grammar of film-making right, but a little more emphasis on the screenplay would’ve helped enormously. Lalit Pandit’s music is strictly okay. K. Rajkumar’s cinematography is alright.

Rahul Aggarwal enacts the pivotal part with conviction. Narayani Shastri does a decent job. Both Paresh Rawal and Om Puri are first-rate. Neena Gupta is wasted. Ravi Kishan carries off the loud character very well. Ananth Mahadevan is alright.

On the whole, NA GHAR KE NA GHAAT KE is a simple film told in the most simplistic manner. Should appeal mainly to those who cherish the Hrishikesh Mukherjee movies of yore.

Atithi (meaning) guest is always an unwelcome specie, especially when they come to stay overnight and the stay then goes into weeks and months. This movie is about one such Atithi. However, since, a guest is like God, we have to treat them right, right? That’s the Indian hospitality. And it is this very hospitality that the comedy is based upon.

Ajay Devgan and Konkona Sen Sharma are happily married to each other with a six-year-old son, when an unwelcome, unannounced guest, who on arrival in the building lobby itself sets up a commotion by slapping the watchman, rocks their world. Guest (Paresh Rawal) is asking for Pappu. He has a flat No., which matches with where Ajay resides. So Ajay who is Puneet in the film becomes Pappu. Rawal enters their home and makes it his own. Farts to his liking, dries his langot in all corners of the house, harasses the maid, and invites his friends over. So much so that the couple have to move out for a few days into a hotel to get some respite.

Atithi Dev Bhav to Atithi Bhag

Rawal annoys so much that you feel for the couple and along with them want to kick him out of their house. But there are a few laughs left and Rawal is not yet done with his unintentional humour, which now has endeared him to all the society members.

It’s a Paresh Rawal show all the way with Ajay and Konkona providing good support. Rawal meeting Sholay’s Kaalia (Viju Khote) on the sets is one hilarious track ‘Kitney aadmi the,’ he keeps asking kaalia, on the Muhurat of the set. His reply causes and out-of-turn explosion blowing a Rs 50 Lakh set before the Muhurat shot!

India is a country that has glorious tradition of welcoming the guests and the illustriousness of tradition goes back to the times of Mahabharata and Ramayana. But in the modern times where the spiraling prices, and the pigeonholed existences have become more of a norm, any guest who tries to pile on, becomes a bone in the neck that can neither be spewed out nor swallowed. ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE, as the title suggests, though underlines the importance of guests in our lives, and is also fed up with their attitude of piling on, as they become enamored of the splurges of modern day existence in the metropolitan cities.

While Ajay Devgun is trying to test waters with his comic prowess one again after not so successful attempt in ALL THE BEST, for Konkona Sen Sharma, and Paresh Rawal, enacting comedy of urban genre is a turf which has become a home ground for them. ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE? is the second film in the current year in which a major Hollywood studio is associating itself, the studio being Warner Brothers. First film during the year was MY NAME IS KHAN and it was co-produced by 20th Century Fox Films.

One does not know whether it is an Anurag Kashyap effect or what but suddenly Gorakhpur; one of the forlorn towns in Eastern UP has become a city of reference in Hindi films. Earlier reference to Gorakhpur was in ISHQIYA and now it has come back again in ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE?. As Warner Brothers is venturing into film making in a big way in Hindi films, they devised innovative way of curtain raiser for the film. The trailer of the film were released in a high definition video format on the Apple website and it built up quite a lot of anticipation for the film within one month of launch of this initiative on the Apple site. ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE? is more of a situational comedy, which seeks to position itself in the genre of comedies made in the 70s by the likes of Hrishikesh Mukerjee, Basu Bhattacharya, etc., situational comedies with which common man used to identify in a dear manner. Would ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE? be able to draw the patrons into the cinema halls by harking back to the era when film viewing was sheer fun and a family outing. 5th March would announce the verdict. The chart topping track from OMKARA, Beedi jalai le is converted into a bhajan, sung by Rawal, which has the society members in a trance. And though the couple want to see the back of their guest who has overstayed his time, when the time comes for him to leave, they actually want him to stay!

In the supernatural thriller Season of the Witch, Nicolas Cage stars as a 14th century Crusader who returns with his comrade (Ron Perlman) to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch (Claire Foy) to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence.

A priest (Stephen Campbell Moore), a grieving knight (Ulrich Thomsen), an itinerant swindler (Stephen Graham) and a headstrong youth who can only dream of becoming a knight (Robert Sheehan) join a mission troubled by mythically hostile wilderness and fierce contention over the fate of the girl.

When the embattled party arrives at the abbey, a horrific discovery jeopardizes the knight’s pledge to ensure the girl fair treatment, and pits them against an inexplicably powerful and destructive force.

Synopsis :
Rahul (Rahul Roy) and Anu Verghese (Anu Aggarwal) meet each other in a police station. Both of them are brought in by the police as on charges of creating disturbance. Rahul Roy was angry with his father as he had married again inspite of his mother still being alive while Anu had ran away from the girls hostel which was run by Tom Alter. They meet and fall in love. Rahul helps Anu to be independent and find a job. Anu turns model. Rahul wants to marry Anu, but first wants to establish himself as a singer and have a career going. He turns into a singer but is under the impression that Anu has helped him to get where he is now. His ego is hurt and he starts hating Anu. Anu tries to re-locate herself abroad for a modelling assignment. Will Anu be able to leave Rahul behind, will Rahul let her go… forms the climax of the film.

हलो ने दिखाया कॉल सेंटर का संसार

इस फिल्म की पब्लिसिटी सबसे ज्यादा सलमान – कटरीना के नाम के साथ की जा रही है जो पूरी फिल्म में तीन – चार दृश्यों और एक आइटम सॉन्ग में नजर आते हैं। वहीं सलमान के ब्रदर अरबाज खान का फिल्म में सिर्फ एक सीन है। हां ! अरबाज खान की साली अमृता अरोड़ा और सुहैल खान का जरूर अहम रोल है।

अतुल की यह फिल्म मशहूर अंग्रेजी उपन्यासकार चेतन भगत के नॉविल ‘ वन नाइट ऐट द कॉल सेंटर ‘ पर आधारित है। अतुल ने फिल्म बनाने से पहले चेतन के साथ मिलकर नॉविल को फिल्म का लुक देने के लिए हल्का – फुल्का सा बदलाव किया है। फिल्म की कहानी कॉल सेंटर में एक रात को घटी कुछ घटनाओं से बुनी हुई है। कॉल सेंटर का बॉस बख्शी ( दिलीप ताहिल ) तेज बारिश के बीच यहां काम करने वाले कुछ लोगों श्याम ( शरमन जोशी ), प्रियंका ( गुल पनाग ), ऐषा ( ईशा कोप्पिकर ), वरुण ( सुहैल खान ), राधिका ( अमृता अरोड़ा ), मिलिट्री अंकल ( शरत सक्सेना ) को अचानक ड्यूटी पर बुलाता है।

इस रात के जरिए कॉल सेंटर में काम करने वालों पर हर वक्त दबाव , उनकी मानसिक स्थिति , अपनों से दूर रहने के टेंशन को डाइरेक्टर ने फिल्म में दिखाने की कोशिश की है। लेकिन कमजोर स्क्रिप्ट और बेवजह खींचे दृश्यों के चलते फिल्म इंटरवल से पहले तक भी दर्शकों को बांधने का दम नहीं रखती। दरअसल , फिल्म की शुरुआत में एक रॉक स्टार ( सलमान खान ) को एक अनजानी लड़की ( कटरीना कैफ ) कॉल सेंटर के इन पांच किरदारों की कहानी सुनाती है। किरदारों से परिचय कराने वाला सीन काफी लंबा और बोझिल है। लेकिन फिल्म का क्लाइमेक्स जरूर प्रभावशाली बन पड़ा है जब इन सभी के पास भगवान का फोन आता है और उन्हें अपने छिपे गुणों का एहसास होता है।

सुहैल खान , ईशा कोप्पिकर को छोड़ दें तो बाकी सभी ने निराश किया है। लेकिन अगर आप कॉल सेंटर के अंदर की लाइफ और यहां काम करने वालों की सोच से वाकिफ होना चाहते हैं तो एक बार फिल्म को देखा जा सकता है।
